Jack Black Beard Lube Review
Hello again,
Secondly, apologies for the lack of activity recently, I’ve moved from high Wycombe back to Manchester with work, so the last few days have been pretty hectic, not to mention that I’ve not got broadband yet! To make amends, I’m going to deluge you with posts over the coming weeks, so keep an eye out!
The first is a review of ‘beard lube’ by Jack Black. Firstly, no its not a hirsute sexual aid, nor is it made by US actor Jack Black. It is in fact a rather fine shave product. It describes itself as a ‘pre-shave oil, shave cream and skin conditioner all in one’.
Generally it lives up to the billing, but I must regard it as something of a Jack Black of all trades, master of none. The overall shave experience was very good, leaving my skin smooth and providing a close shave with even a light coating of the product. I would still recommend using a pre-shave and post shave product, particularly if you have sensitive skin.

I am overall impressed by the beard lube, and will be working my way through the rest of the tube, but I would probably not buy again. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, just that there are better products out there at this price point. It’s the kind of product that I hate reviewing, because there’s nothing wrong with it, but there’s nothing about it that bowls me over. It’s a perfectly good shave product, and don’t get me wrong, there are people out there for whom this will be the holy grail, but for me it’s just another shave product. If you ever shave in a hurry, this is definitely worth a punt as the hybrid nature is great for anyone with limited time.
Jack Black beard lube is £18 for 177ml and is available from

I felt exactly the same about this. It was OK just there are superior products at a cheaper price available on the market. It didn’t leave me with any burning desire to repurchase or try anything else from the JB range.
I know what you mean. I have got a couple of the other jack black products on test at the moment, and they are better than the beard lube thankfully. My skin is drinking up the spf moisturiser at the moment!
For me this is a HG product. I hate shaving and from the many many products I have tried, this makes the process bearable. So I’d like to hear what are the product exactly you find superior? Oils, foams and gels don’t generally work on me, so I’m mostly interested in these kinds of cream textures.
Hi noer, thanks for the comment :) naturally we all have different skin and different products work better for some than others. For me, in terms of creamy products, I prefer the milk by Michael klim products I reviewed last, and the bluebeards revenge. Both work better for me and are a bit better value wise. I also like penhaligon’s shave cream, though you have to like the fragrances otherwise you will be immediately put off. It’s also a bit more pricey than the milk and bluebeards.
I’ve gotta say I quite liked this one – found it particularly pleasant when I used it on a regular basis (i.e. most effective when used daily rather than when trying to take off five days or so of growth).
I’ve never really had skin sensitive enough to warrant purchasing anything for a pre-shave and I think that this was perfectly adequate in place of a post shave balm too. I’m definitely a “shave in a hurry” kinda guy most of the time tho so maybe it would be less ideal for those who take longer and prefer the process of the three-part shave?
